Request the Addition of a Group not Currently Carried
on our Server
The Big 8 newsgroups (comp.*, humanities.*, misc.*, news.*, rec.*,
sci.*, soc.*, talk.*) will automatically be created via signed
authorization messages from those listed as official maintainers of those
hierarchies.
To request adding an existing alt.* (or other
hierarchy) group not currently carried by news.tamu.edu, send a message
to news@tamu.edu clearly stating the
exact group name you wish to add.
The following criteria must be met before add an alt.* group is added:

The newsgroup must have been discussed in *.config (i.e., alt.config,
news.config, etc. as appropriate).

The group must have had a valid control message sent out such
that it was archived automatically for action.

The group must be one offered to us by at least one of our upstream
providers.
The following conditions must not be the case, or the group will not be
created:

The group must not be a "joke" group (.bork.bork.bork or .die.die.die
type of ending.)

The newsgroup must not create an unneeded top-level hierarchy (e.g.,
alt.my.car, when there are no other alt.my.* groups) unless the
discussion in alt.config specifically expects to create the new
hierarchy for other sub-categories.
