As a Student, What Do I Need to Know About the Labs?

Student Lab Account

As a student of Texas A&M, you automatically have an OAL account. However, to use the computers in the labs, you will need to activate your account:

  1. Click the Account Services link to go to the Manage OAL Account page. Log in with your NetID and password.
  2. Select the Activate My Account link and click Activate Account.
  3. Once your account is activated, you can log in to any OAL computer using your NetID and password.

Student's Print Allowance

Students have a print allowance of $30 for each regular semester and $15 for the summer session to cover some of their black-and-white and color printing.

Printing over your allocation and all large format (plotter) printing are billed to your fee statement. To easily view your print activity, print history, and current charges, log in to an OAL computer and click the MyPrintCharges icon on the Start menu.

For more information and instructions on printing at the labs, go to the OAL Printing page.

Note: For students printing documents or plots at the OAL for their professor, be sure that you receive authorization to use the professor's print allocation. Otherwise, your account can be charged. For more information, see the Print Charges Handout.

Important Information About Digital File Sharing

If you are considering using file sharing (especially peer-to-peer), be sure to read Important Information About Using A&M's Electronic Resources For Digital File Sharing. It helps you know the rules so you can comply with copyright laws and university regulations. For more on student computing issues, see the Student Computing Information Page.
