LDAP, CAS and Passwords

This presentation was made to a special meeting of the Texas A&M University UWeb group on November 2, 2005. It introduced new services for NetID account management.

Recent legislative action such as TAC 202 significantly changed a number of aspects of IT in state agencies and universities. A number of new rules and administrative procedures were created to comply with the legislation, and the text of these rules is available at the university's Rules and SAPS site. This was subsequently followed up by audits from a number of state and university auditors. The message was loud and clear: get tougher on security at all levels. No system was spared, including the NetID.

This presentation covers some of the aspects of password management for the NetID and directory services. It also covers some aspects of CAS and how it can be used to implement some of the SAPS. The presentation contains three main parts as listed below.

  1. Texas A&M University Directory Services, LDAP, and the NetID
  2. CAS Processing of passwordExpired for NetID
  3. Schedule of Events for NetID Password Resets

This presentation will become part of the NetID Information Center and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
