Have you ever returned from a semester break or vacation and realized you couldn't remember your NetID password? Self-Service Password Reset allows you to reset your NetID password at any time from any place, should you forget it. Without it, you need to contact Help Desk Central by phone or in person, or visit an Open Access Lab to reset a forgotten password.
How Self-Service Password Reset Works
To be able to use Self-Service Password Reset, you first need to choose three security questions. Your answers will be used along with other account information to verify your identity if you need to reset your password.
To select your security questions, go to the Aggie Computing Gateway and click NetID Password Management. Then click Set Password Security Questions and log in with your NetID and password. Choose to enable Self-Service Password Reset, then select your three security questions.
Note: If you've forgotten your password, you can't set up security questions to use Self-Service Password Reset. You need to set up the security questions in advance.
If you do forget your password, go to the Aggie Computing Gateway and click NetID Password Management, then click Self-Service Password Reset. After providing identifying information including your Universal Identification Number (UIN), NetID, and birth date,* answer your three security questions. Your account is then flagged to allow you to enter a new password.
For more information about this service, see the Self-Service Password Reset FAQ. You can also contact Help Desk Central if you need any assistance at 979.845.8300 or helpdesk@tamu.edu.
*The Self-Service Password Reset application also uses a captcha as an additional security measure to verify that a person, not automated software, is requesting to use the service. A captcha shows an image of random characters displayed in a distorted fashion, and you must type in what you see on the screen. If you have difficulties viewing the captcha, you will need to call Help Desk Central or visit an Open Access Lab to have your password reset.
