Description of Software

The current version of Matlab is 2007b.

You will need to provide the hostname of the machine on which MatLab is going to be installed. To run MatLab, you must be connected to the A&M network.

Providing the correct Hostname

For Matlab to work properly, you must provide the SELL with the correct computer name. The computer name is not the IP address or host name of the computer as determined by DNS but is instead the name that name that has been given to it by your systems administrator Find your OS below and follow the instructions provided to find the correct hostname. Matlab will not run if the hostname is not correct.

  • Windows XP: There are two possible ways to do this, depending on the options you have set for your desktop:

    1. Right click on "My Computer" on the desktop, left click Properties, left click on "Computer Name" tab, "Full computer name" will show up down towards the middle of the window.
    2. Left click "Start" menu, right click on "My Computer", left click Properties, left click on "Computer Name" tab, "Full computer name" will show up down towards the middle of the window.
  • Windows 2000: Right click on "My Computer" on the desktop, left click on Properties, left click "Network Identification" and "Full computer name" will show up near the top of the window.
  • Windows NT4: Right click on "Network Neighborhood" on the desktop, Identification should be the first tab that appears and beneath that is "Computer Name".
  • Windows ME: Right click on "My Network Places" on the desktop, left click Identification tab and "Computer name" will appear below that towards the top of the window.
  • Windows 95/98: Right click on "Network Neighborhood" on the desktop, left click on Identification tab and "Computer name" will appear below that towards the top of the window.
  • UNIX : Type the command 'hostname' at a command line terminal and whatever it reports back (it should be a single line of data returned) is the name to use for Matlab.

NOTE: For any situation, the name must be exactly as it appears from the above windows or command. It IS case sensitive.
