Differences Between @tamu and @neo Addresses
Your @tamu.edu address is a forwarding address, not an actual mail box. Your @neo.tamu.edu address is a real mail box where mail gets delivered.
- Your @neo.tamu.edu is the address for your mail box on TAMU Email, the campus email system. For students, the university sends official mail to this account such as billing notices, registration information, breaking news, and campus announcements. Mail sent to @neo.tamu.edu is not allowed to be forwarded to another mailbox such as Gmail.
- Your @tamu.edu address can be set up to forward to any mail box you choose such as your @neo.tamu.edu, departmental email, Gmail account, etc. For students, @tamu.edu addresses are automatically set up to forward to @neo.tamu.edu mailboxes. If you want to change where your mail is delivered, go to Aggie Computing Gateway and click "Edit Directory". For additional information, see Editing Your Directory Information.
- When publishing your email address, such as on a business card, curriculum vitae, or resume, use the @tamu.edu address. This is the email address that is listed in the Campus Directory.
Notes on the Transition to TAMU Email
In the previous Neo email system, users were able to create extra address names or "aliases" for their @neo.tamu.edu account that also delivered mail to their mail box. These aliases still exist and continue to work in TAMU Email. However, users cannot edit or change them. Note: For students, official campus mailing lists use your_NetID@neo.tamu.edu, not any of your aliases.
For those who did not receive a TAMU Email account during the transition, any mail sent to your @neo.tamu.edu address will continue to be forwarded to the address that you designated, such as your @tamu.edu address. We highly encourage you to transition away from using your @neo.tamu.edu address.
